Newcastle and Ipswich to wear Sir Bobby Robson tribute kits

Newcastle and Ipswich Town have been given permission to wear special kits for their Championship match at Portman Road on the 26th September. The kits will be a tribute to long-serving football figure Sir Bobby Robson, who died of cancer on the 31st July at the age of 76.

A fairly successful playing career saw Robson turn out predominately for Fulham FC and West Bromwich Albion. However, he made his name during his management career where he coached nine different clubs. Two of his most successful spells were at Ipswich (1969-1982) and Newcastle, the last team he coached between 1999 and 2004. His death was felt throughout the country for the invaluable contribution he gave to the beautiful game.

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation collects funds to research different cures and methods to combat cancer. Both Ipswich and Newcastle will wear special shirts on this occasion with the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation logo embroidered on them. In the case of Newcastle, this will be placed on the right side of the chest, while in the case of home team Ipswich this will be placed above the club crest on the left side of the chest. The date of the event will also be embroidered on the shirts and they will be auctioned after the match to raise funds for cancer research.
