Benfica kick off the 2008/09 campaign with a home shirt which surpasses last season's effort. Adidas have gone for a slightly lighter shade of red and have added several black areas around the shirt which blend in with great effect. However, the major improvement is the changing of the home sponsor to TMN which sees a greatly reduced logo on the front of the shirt. Overall, I'm a big fan of this shirt and it is a massive improvement on last year's amateurish effort.
Benfica also start the new season with a brand new away shirt. Unfortunately, that means the pink and black combination that was used last year will not return. As far as pink football kits go, it was definitely my favourite by a mile. However, Adidas have this season reverted to quite a plain white kit with black stripes running half way down the arm. The sponsor is Sapoadsl whose logo is a picture of a cartoon frog which really doesn't blend in with the shirt. Overall, this looks slightly like a copycat of the Real Madrid home shirt and shows no real originality to be a great kit.
